How to set yourself up for Interview success

Follow these essential tips for how to have a successful interview to help you secure that dream role:

1. Practice, practice, practice!

Practicing for your interview can help ease nerves and also lead to some improvement. Ask a friend or family member to interview you and get their feedback.

2. Reflect on you strengths and weaknesses

Take a moment to reflect on your skills, strengths and weaknesses. Make a list and think of an example of a time when you displayed each of these qualities. The goal here is to display how you successfully handled the situation to your potential employer.

3. Prepare answers to common questions

Review typical interview questions to help you practice summarising your skills and interest in the role you're seeking. If you prepare, you'll feel less 'on the spot' when answering these questions.

Here are some common questions you may hear in an interview:

-          Tell me about yourself.

-          Why do you want this job?

-          What are your strengths?

-          What are your weaknesses?

-          What do you know about the company?

-          Where do you see yourself in five years?

-          What is your work ethic?

-          Do you have any questions?

4. Dress to impress

Remember, first impressions count! The way you dress can make or break whether you make a positive first impression. The outfit you choose will depend on the company and the type of culture they promote. Do some research on this by looking through the company's website and social media accounts.

5. Stay Calm

Arriving early will give you time to relax before going in to your interview. Drive to the location ahead of time so you can find out the exact location before the day of the interview and prepare enough time for the drive there. Before going in, take a deep breath and feel confident that you've prepared well for it. Being nervous is normal, but try to stay as calm as you can and let your personality shine through!

6. Be authentic

Practice and preparation may help you have a successful interview, but being your authentic self will have the biggest impact on the interviewer. Be positive, assertive and confident, but also remain candid and concise in what you say. Focus on telling the truth when answering questions, using real-world examples from your career.

7. Remember to follow up!

Write a short email after the interview to thank the employer for taking the time to meet. You can reiterate important details mentioned during the interview, such as your enthusiasm for the position and company. This can help employers remember you and contact you regarding the next steps.
